Management Competence Scan
Measuring management competencies online
The MCS is a web-based management scan that quickly assesses a candidate’s performance on the most important management competencies. It also provides insight into how the candidates reach decisions. The MCS can be carried out online at any time, from any work station. As soon as the scan has been completed, The MCS quickly calculates the candidate’s scores and generates a report showing how the candidate has performed on each competency. The MCS is the simplest way of obtaining a detailed management profile of a candidate – rapidly and objectively.
Benefits of the MCS
The benefits of the MCS include:
- Fast overview: As soon as the scan has been completed, you can see how the candidate has scored on the most important management competencies.
- Objective: Objectivity is ensured as the scoring is standardised. Unlike the results of conventional skills tests, which may be influenced by the biases and prejudices of individual assessors, the results of the MCS are completely objective and reliable.
- User-friendly: The MCS can be used independently, individually or companywide.
- Realistic: Thanks to its modern, professional appearance, candidates not only enjoy taking the MCS but also feel it is representative for a professional business environment.
- Low cost: Payment is per scan. No licence fees.
Description of the MCS
Essentially, the scan tests the ability of candidates to analyse a complex company and market situation. The candidate must play the role of a Managing Director and take decisions that are in the company’s best interests. The candidate is given one hour to evaluate 15 letters and make decisions that can then be effectively put into action. |

The candidate is provided with certain background information, including some company history, turnover and profit and loss data, sick-leave data, and an organisational chart. Several colleagues introduce themselves to the new Managing Director, giving their personal views on certain matters from their perspective. |
Decision categories
The candidate has to use the information provided to make a number of decisions and perform tasks that occur frequently in a manager’s daily work. For each letter, the candidate must complete an action card:
- Who is to take action
- What communication channel (medium) should be used
- When the action must be completed by
- Who needs to be kept fully informed of developments
- What action is required
- How various issues relate to each other
- Whether the person taking the action needs to report back
The Management Competence Profile (MCP)
After the candidate has completed the scan, the program calculates the candidate’s scores on the various management competencies. These scores are presented in a Management Competence Profile (MCP) in Word format. This automatic scoring saves time and, thanks to the standardised nature of the test, provides you with an objective indication of the candidate’s ability in the following key management competencies:
- Delegating
- Planning and organising
- Prioritising
- Decision-making
- Problem analysis
- Management control
- General management effectiveness and entrepreneurship
How can you use the Management Competence Scan?
The MCS can be used in your organisation’s selection or development processes in many different ways. For example:
- To help in selecting candidates (HR departments and recruitment consultancies)
- To measure management potential (in career guidance)
- To provide before-and-after assessments (in schooling and training)
- To identify management potential (in company-internal talent searches)

The price per individual scan is €85. For larger numbers, we work with a sliding scale.
